Dr. Mario Fiori, Senior Consultant to The Rhoads Group, has a long and distinguished career in public service focused on defense and energy issues. Dr. Fiori's most recently served as the Assistant Secretary of the United States Army for Installations and Environment. In that capacity, he was responsible for the design, construction, operations, maintenance and management of all U.S. Army installations worldwide; privatization of Army family housing, real estate and other infrastructure programs; environmental conservation, compliance, clean-up and site disposal programs; and, management of the Army's safety and occupational health programs.
Prior to his appointment in the Pentagon, Dr. Fiori served in several high-level positions within the U.S. Department of Energy, initially as the departmental representative to the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board. In 1993, the Secretary of Energy named Dr. Fiori as the Executive Manager of the Department's Savannah River Site in Aiken, S.C., one of the nation's larger nuclear facilities. Dr. Fiori also served as Special Assistant to President Reagan's Science Advisor. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Dr. Fiori's distinguished military service includes serving as the Commanding Officer of the USS Spadefish a Sturgeon-class submarine; Commander of Submarine Squadron 4; and retired as Commander of the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport, R.I. Dr. Fiori holds a MS in Mechanical Engineering, a Nuclear Engineering Degree and a Doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
